Murat Duran was born in 1984 in Amasya, Türkiye. He completed his undergraduate education in Primary Mathematics Teaching at the Faculty of Education, Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2006. He earned his master’s degree in Mathematics Education from Erzincan University in 2011 and completed his doctoral studies in Mathematics Education at the Institute of Educational Sciences, Atatürk University, in 2018. His doctoral research focused on the pedagogical content knowledge of mathematics teachers, with particular emphasis on teaching and learning of the derivative. Between his undergraduate graduation and his academic appointment, he worked as a mathematics teacher in public schools affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of National Education for approximately 15 years. During this period, he taught mathematics at the middle and secondary school levels, gaining extensive experience in curriculum implementation, student learning difficulties, and instructional design. His long-term teaching experience has played a significant role in shaping his research perspective by closely linking theory with classroom practice. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at Hatay Mustafa Kemal University. In his academic role, he teaches undergraduate courses related to mathematics education, such as numbers and operations, algebra teaching, mathematical modeling, problem solving, logical reasoning, and textbook analysis. His teaching approach emphasizes conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and the development of professional competencies of prospective teachers. His research interests include pedagogical content knowledge, visual mathematics literacy, mathematical metacognitive awareness, argumentation, problem solving and problem posing, and instructional processes in mathematics education. His studies address mathematics teaching and learning across educational levels, focusing primarily on functions, limits, derivatives, and integrals at the high school and undergraduate levels and on probability and fractions at the middle school level. He has published in national and international peer-reviewed journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, contributed chapters to edited academic books, presented papers at national and international conferences, served as a reviewer for scholarly journals, and participated as a researcher in nationally funded research projects.
