Objective: The study made to make comparison of Facial Pain Scale versions vertical and horizontal applications which is used with peditaric. Material and Methods: Study made between February 2010 and May 2010 in Kütahya State Hospital at the Department of Pediatric Surgery. 101 children (26 girls, 75 boys) 3-18 age range were included in the study after surgery. Families were also assessed with children. In order to evaluate the family of the child, and is located next to one of the parents who want to participate in the study were included. Children's story and demographic data were recorded. the child's pain severity were evaluated after 30th minute acute surgery with Facial Pain Scale using the horizontal and vertical applications. Test-retest reliability of the end of the 15 minutes after the initial assessment to determine the second evaluation was made using the same method. Results: Facial Pain Scale's horizontal application score was moderate and significant correlation between the child and the family's answers (r=0.60). Facial Pain Scale's horizontal application score was high and significant correlation between the child and the family's answers (r=0.90). Conclusion: Facial Pain Scale's horizontal and vertical applications between children and their families test-retest reliability is high. However, if it is impossible to take information of the pain from the child it is more suitable using vertical Facial Pain Scale. © 2014 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
