Effects of lead on lipid peroxidation were investigated in New Zealand rabbits. Lead was administered to rabbits orally as lead acetate in isotonic saline at 80 and 160 ppm daily for 15 days. Lipid peroxidation was evaluated by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the plasma, superoxide dismutase (Cu-Zn SOD) and catalase activities in the erythrocytes on day 15. MDA level increased, whereas, catalase activity decreased in 160 ppm lead treated group. On the other hand, Cu-Zn SOD activity decreased in both lead treated groups.
