Stress not only affects individual’s health and performance but also causes many problems in organizations. Little research has been conducted to investigate stress experienced by academic staff. The purpose of this study is to identify sources, consequences and coping strategies of stress and to examine the relationships between sources and consequences of stress and demographics of academics and also job satisfaction. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted on academics of Mustafa Kemal University in Turkey. The main findings of the research indicated that the stress on academic staff resulted from personal caharacteristics, academic fulfillment and non-work factors. The research results indicated that there is an inverse relationship between stress and job satisfaction level. There were significant differences between males and females in some stress factors. But age was found to have a significant effect on stress level. Lecturer have more stress then counterparts by workload and time pressure because of loading more lectures.
