Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaokul öğrencilerinin okuma alışkanlıklarını belirleyerek

öne çıkan metin içeriği ve tür tercihlerini tespit etmek olarak belirlenmiştir. Ortaokul


öğrencilerinin okuma alışkanlıklarına yön veren metin içeriği ve türü ilgilerinin


belirlenmesinin amaçlandığı bu araştırmada tarama modeli kullanılmıştır.


Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu farklı sınıflarda öğrenim gören 847 ortaokul


öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma verileri araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen


Okuma İlgi ve Alışkanlığı Anketi toplanmıştır. Veriler 2024 yılı Mayıs ayında bir ders


saati süresinde toplanmış, tablolaştırılan sonuçlar betimsel istatistik ile analiz


edilmiştir. Araştırmada cinsiyet ve sınıf düzeyi değişken olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu


araştırmada elde edilen bulgular ortaokul öğrencilerinin genel anlamda boş


zamanlarını okumakla geçirmeyi tercih etmeseler de belirli bir okuma alışkanlığına


sahip olduklarını ve okumayı sevdiklerini göstermektedir. Ayrıca öğrenciler kitap


seçimlerinde türe ağırlıkla dikkat etmekte ve çoğunlukla hikâye-roman türünde


kitapları okumayı tercih etmektedirler. Kitap içeriğinde ise macera, eğlence, mizah,


arkadaşlık, spor, bilim kurgu ve gezi konuları öne çıkmaktadır. Daha az tercih edilen


içerik başlıkları ise kahramanlık ve tarih, duygusal, hayvanlar âlemi ile aile ve ev


hayatı konularıdır.


e purpose of this study is to examine the reading habits of middle school students

and to identify their prominent preferences regarding text content and genre. is

study, which seeks to determine the text content and genre interests that influence the

reading habits of middle school students, employed a survey research design. e

sample of the study consists of 847 middle school students enrolled at different grade

levels. Data were collected using the Reading Interest and Habit Questionnaire

developed by the researcher. e data collection process was carried out in May 2024

during a single class period, and the resulting data were analyzed using descriptive

statistical techniques. Gender and grade level were included as variables in the study.

e findings of the study indicate that although middle school students generally do

not prefer to spend their leisure time reading, they nevertheless possess a certain level

of reading habit and derive enjoyment from reading. Furthermore, students primarily

consider genre when selecting books and show a strong preference for texts in the

story–novel genre. With regard to book content, themes related to adventure,

entertainment, humor, friendship, sports, science fiction, and travel are particularly

prominent. In contrast, themes such as heroism and history, emotional content, the

animal world, and family and home life are less preferred.
