This study aims to comprehensively analyze 403 doctoral dissertations completed in the Department of Kalam (Islamic Theology) within the framework of Basic Islamic Sciences in Türkiye between 1960 and 2025. Examining a period of approximately sixty-five years, this research is significant in revealing the academic journey of the science of Kalam in the modern era through both quantitative and qualitative data. The primary objective of the article is to identify the thematic focal points of academic production in the field of Kalam, the paradigmatic shifts it has undergone over time, and the existing gaps in the literature. To establish the methodological framework of the study, a comprehensive dataset was created by meticulously scanning university web pages, the ISAM Articles Database, and the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Thesis Center. Beyond providing a mere numerical inventory, the research offers a multi- layered evaluation, including the thematic distribution of dissertations, their chronological progression, supervisor profiles, and the contributions of scholars from different disciplines to the process. The examined doctoral theses are classified under 22 sub-headings within the main framework of systematic Kalam issues, interdisciplinary and comparative studies, conceptual analyses, person-region-period research, and text-critical (tahqiq) studies. This classification encompasses an extensive range, from divine attributes to the conception of prophethood, the relationship between Kalam and politics, modern philosophical movements, gender-related research, and contemporary theological problems. The findings indicate that while certain subjects in doctoral studies within the field of Kalam reached academic saturation during specific periods, research on Kalam methodology, semantic analyses, and certain regional or historical periods remains limited. Furthermore, methodological deficiencies in the introduction and conclusion sections of the theses, along with inadequacies in literature reviews, constitute the critical dimension of this study. In conclusion, by presenting a projection of Kalam studies from the past to the present, this article serves as a strategic literature map and a guiding resource for future academic research and the determination of new doctoral thesis topics.
