Özet
Breastfeeding includes all basic elements, balanced nutrient and liquids and satisfies for infant's physical and mental growing at the first 6 month of birth. For this reason, the chance to get malnutrated is low for babies, who have been growing up with breastfeeding. Between June-July 2000, there were 90 malnutrated, 30 healthy, totally 120 cases, aged between 6-36 months reported and researched at the Medical Faculty of Atatürk University, Department of Pediatrics. The malnutrated cases classified as mild, moderate and severe by Gomez (weighted by age) criterion. It was determined that the 10% of mild malnutrated, 43% of moderate malnutrated, 66.6% of severe malnutrated cases hadn't been breastfeeded and the 86.7% of mild malnutrated, 96.7% of moderate malnutrated and %100 of severe malnutrated cases had been feeded with cowmilk. In control group, although feeding with cowmilk was 70%; all of them were breastfeeded. Paralelly to the increase of degree of malnutrition, there was an evident decrease of breastfeeding period (p<0.001) and it was seen that the age of beginning to feed with cowmilk decreases. As a result of these researches it is emphasized that breastfeeding is a very important factor to avoid from malnutrition.
