Özet

37 earthquake survivors were interviewed in order to understand and evaluate the experiences of earthquake survivors after the 2023 earthquake in Turkey and to reveal the effectiveness of these experiences and the relief and recovery efforts. These interviews were analyzed with qualitative methods and themes and codes were determined. The interpretation of the data obtained by analyzing the qualitative data revealed that the relief and recovery efforts were generally inadequate. In the interviews, problems such as aid not arriving on time, lack of fair distribution, food and water shortages were mentioned. The research emphasizes that the first support is received from family, friends or relatives and that community solidarity is critical. However, the lack of disaster training of these aid providers indicates the need for more training for future responders. The results suggest the need to ensure emergency planning, trained relief teams and strong communication mechanisms. It is also emphasized that communities' own preparedness can lead to more effective response to disaster situations. Recommendations include a detailed review assessing the effective provision of assistance, a comprehensive study to understand the role of community solidarity, a study investigating the relationship between disaster response effectiveness and the level of education of aid providers, and a study examining the usability of digital curricula.
