Özet

This study investigates the effects of the electromagnetic field resulting from the 170 kV high voltage power lines, on the sexual cycles, pregnancy rate, litter size, sex ratio and viability in rats. Rats (172) were assigned to experimental and control groups. The rats were continuously exposed to electromagnetic fields for 24 hours for 1,2 and 3 month. Sexual cycles were determined by vaginal smear method. The duration of the sexual cycle was longer in the rats which were exposed to the electromagnetic fields. The groups were found to be statistically different (P < 0.05) from each other with respect to pregnancy rate. Significant differences were detected (P < 0.05) in the viability of litters, It was concluded that exposure to the electromagnetic fields for different durations increases the duration of sexual cycle and decreases pregnancy rate in rats.
