This study assumed that nursery plants can be accurately irrigated in proportion to plant transpiration. Transpiration rates of Acer Rubrum (Red Maple) were measured in a high stress environment and evaluated in proportion to solar radiation, vapor pressure deficit (VPD), and a combination of both. The combination model provided the best predictions of transpiration for the plants used in this study with a regression coefficient of 0.931. The next best predictor of transpiration was VPD with a coefficient of 0.8608 and solar radiation with a coefficient of 0.5904.
