3rd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND URBAN LANDSCAPES, Girne, Kıbrıs (Kktc), 13 - 14 Aralık 2024, cilt.1, ss.830-839, (Tam Metin Bildiri)
Urban areas are facing
significant challenges regarding sustainability due to rapidly increasing
populations and changing environmental conditions. In this context, social
fabric plays a critical role in achieving the sustainability goals of urban
communities. This study examines the impact of social fabric on urban
sustainability and explores the resilience strategies of communities. Social
fabric encompasses elements such as relationships among community members,
cooperation, and social capital, which enhance community resilience during
crisis periods. By analyzing case studies conducted in various urban regions,
the research demonstrates that communities with strong social ties are more
resilient to environmental, economic, and social shocks. Additionally,
strategies such as participatory planning, community-based projects, and social
enterprises have been shown to support urban sustainability efforts. These
strategies promote the active participation of community members, enabling the
development of collective solutions and more effective use of resources. In
conclusion, strengthening social fabric is vital for urban sustainability, and
policymakers need to invest in this area. This study emphasizes the necessity
of adopting social fabric-focused approaches in the development of urban
planning and sustainability policies and provides a guiding framework for
future research.
