Özet

In developing countries, it is seen that animal food consumption is increasing day by day in parallel

with social and economic developments. In order to meet this need, it is necessary to increase the

production amounts of red meat and poultry meat regularly. Today, one of the important problems of the

meat industry is the inability to develop meat production in parallel with the rapidly increasing population.

Developed countries that support plant and animal production with rational economic policies can provide

stability and increase in national production. In this study, red meat and poultry meat production data in

our country were evaluated and the main problems and solutions in the sector were compiled. When the

current situation in terms of red meat is examined, the number of cattle, buffaloes and goats in Türkiye

between 2018 and 2023 is 3.64%, respectively; %9,33; It was observed that it decreased by 5.67%, while

the number of sheep increased by 19.5% in the same period. Total red meat production increased by 113%

between these years. In the poultry industry, which is one of the strongest sectors of the Turkish economy,

between 2018 and 2023, the number of laying hens and turkeys increased by 7.7%, respectively; While it

decreased by 16.4%, the number of broilers increased by 10.7% in the same period. Again, in these years,

total poultry meat production increased by 8%. Türkiye has become the 8th country with the largest

capacity in poultry production in 2022. In order to ensure sustainability in the red meat and poultry sectors

in Türkiye and to meet the food need from within the country and to ensure rural economic development,

it is necessary to develop and strengthen animal husbandry with rational policies. For this purpose, the

wrong policies implemented should be abandoned, producers should be supported, and the livestock sector

should be revitalized by giving importance to issues such as breeding production and breeding studie
