Pre-service science teachers’ project proposals for environmental problems: domestic waste

Özet

This study aims to develop projects based on recycled materials to solve environmental problems arising from household waste and to get the opinions of senior pre-service science teachers about these materials. For this purpose, pre-service teachers designed 13 recycled materials. The study was conducted with 26 senior pre-service science teachers in the spring semester of the 2021–2022 academic year. The case study design of the qualitative research method was used. Data collection tools used in the study were self-assessment form, peer review form, expert evaluation form, and video recordings. The obtained data were evaluated with descriptive analysis. The projects prepared by the pre-service teachers were evaluated via expert opinion, self-assessment, and peer review. As a result of these assessments, it was concluded that the projects developed by pre-service teachers contributed to recycling, the economy, environmental awareness, and social awareness. Based on these results, developing and implementing various projects on recycled materials at different grade levels is recommended.
