Abstract

The dynamic response of helical rods having arbitrary shape under time dependent loads is investigated using an efficient method of analysis in the Laplace domain. The material of the rod is assumed to be homogeneous, linear elastic and isotropic. The curvature of the rod axis, effect of the rotary inertia, axial and shear deformation are considered in the formulations. Ordinary differential equations in scalar form obtained in the Laplace domain are solved using complementary functions method. The forced vibrations of non-cylindrical helical rods are analyzed through various examples. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
