Abstract

Agronomic and quality characteristics of 16 Virginia type groundnut cvs. and, direct and indirect effects of these characters on yield formation as an alternate crop were investigated in Hatay district in 1995 and 1996. The genotypes differed significantly in respect to all investigated characters, and it was concluded that the peanut could be an important alternate crop for Hatay district based on the results of pod yield, which ranged between 211.9 and 311.3 kg/da. Correlation and path coefficient analysis also revealed that the number of pods per plant, pod yield per plant and kernel/pod ratio correlated significantly with pod yield per decare, and pod yield per plant and kernel/pod ratio characteristics in particular had the highest positive direct effects on pod yield per decare under regional conditions.
