Specific antibodies against canine coronavirus (CCV) were detected by ELISA in sera samples of stray dogs of different ages and sexes from Turkey. Blood samples were taken from 94 unvaccinated stray dogs. The seroprevalence rate of CCV IgG was 73.4%. The seroprevalence rate was significantly different between dogs aged 4 months to 2 years and 3-5 years or older. CCV was more widespread in stray dogs housed in kennels at all age groups. The seroprevalence rate was higher in male dogs than in bitches, but the difference was insignificant. It was suggested that pet dogs of all ages be routinely vaccinated against CCV, because stray dogs were considered as a risk for transmission of infection to pet dogs.
