This quasi-experimental study explored the impact of a seven-weekintervention in reciprocal teaching (RT) on improving pre-serviceEnglish-as-a-foreign-language (EFL) teachers’ (PSEFLTs) readingcomprehension skills. The experimental group (N = 56) were subjectedto an intervention designed to help them understand and apply the stepsin RT while the control group (N = 53) attended to reading classestaught conventionally. Data was collected from a pre-reading testadministered prior to the commencement and a post-reading testadministered following the intervention, and a semi-structuredinterview. The findings revealed there was no statistically significantdifference in experimental and control group participants’ readingcomprehension skills in the pre-reading test; nevertheless, theexperimental group outperformed the control group in the post-readingtest. Analysis of the qualitative data demonstrated the PSEFLTsviewed the RT intervention as effective in developing their readingcomprehension skills and would implement it in their future teaching.
