Abstract:

The pistachio twig borer moth (PTBM), Kermania pistaciella Amsel (Lepidoptera: Oinophilidae), is one of the important pests of pistachio in Turkey. The study was conducted in 2018-2019 to determine population density and damage rates of the PTBM, K. pistaciella Amsel at pistachio orchards in Kilis and Gaziantep provinces. In this study, The PTBM pheromone [(2S, 12Z) 2-Acetoxy-12-heptadecene] with delta and funnel type traps were used. Traps were checked weekly and adult moths were counted and cleaned. All pistachio trees in the orchards were checked to estimate larval damage rate of the PTBM. In the first year of the study, a total of 1808 PTBM adults were caught by nine delta pheremone traps at nine different pistachio orchards in Elbeyli district of Kilis province. The highest number of adults caught by the pheromone traps was on 8th April. A total of 6230 PTBM adults were caught by five delta pheremone traps at two different pistachio orchards in Karkamış district of Gaziantep province. The first and the highest number of adults caught by pheromone traps were on 8th April. A total of 8356 PTBM adults were caught by four funnel pheremone traps. The first and the highest number of adults caught by pheromones traps were on 8th April. In the second year of the study, a total of 1086 PTBM adults by 36 funnel pheromone traps and a total of 1049 PTBM adults by 27 delta pheromone traps were caught at nine different pistachio orchards in Elbeyli district of Kilis province. First adults caught by delta pheromone traps was on 23rd April, and the highest number of adults caught by them was on 30th April. First adults caught by the funnel pheromone traps was on 23rd April and the highest number of adults caught by them was on 30th April. A total of 12.509 PTBM adults by 29 funnel pheromone traps and a total of 15.230 PTBM adults by 20 delta pheromone traps were caught at four different pistachio orchards in Karkamış district of Gaziantep province. First adults caught by delta pheromone traps was on 10th April, the highest number of adults caught by them was on 24th April. First adults caught by the funnel pheromone traps was on 10th April and the highest number of the adults caught by them was on 24th April. In the first year of the study, the highest damage rate in the pistachio orchards estimated in Orchard 8 with 37.39%, and followed by orchard 7 with 36.25%, orchard 10 with 30%, orchard 6 with 26.25%, orchard 5 with 19.2%, orchard 9 with 18.26, and orchard 11 with 12.5%. In addition, the damage rates in the first four orchards (orchard 1, 2, 3, 4) were found to be between 0.1 and 0.9%. In the second year of the study, the highest damage rate in the pistachio orchards estimated in orchard 10 with 12.8%, and followed by orchard 8 with 9.1%, orchard 6 with 8.5%, orchard 12 with 8.37%, orchard 11 with 7.71%, orchard 5 with 7.2%, orchard 7 with 5.6%, orchard 9 with 5.6%, orchard 13 with 5.45%. There was not any damage observed in the first four orchards (orchard 1, 2, 3, 4).
