Abstract:

The study was conducted in 2019-2020 using mass traps to control and determine the damage rate of cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) on cotton varieties in Kırıkhan district of Hatay province. The study was conducted on seven cotton fields in 2019 with May 468 ST in plot A, May 455 in plot B, Progen Carisma in plot C, May 468 ST in plot D, Progen Edessa in plot E, Progen Flash in plot F, and May 455 in plot G. The study was conducted on seven cotton fields in 2020 with Progen Lima in plot A, May 455 in plot B, May 455 in plot C, May 468 ST in plot D, May 455 in plot E, Progen Flash in plot F, and May 455 in plot G. In 2019, 13,916 adult cotton bollworms were caught with 60 pheromone traps in seven cotton fields during the sampling period. In the study, the highest number of adult cotton bollworms was caught on July 30 (3331 adults), followed by July 23 (3150 adults) and August 20 (2303 adults). The number of adult cotton bollworm caught with the traps depended on the cotton varieties: May 468 ST (2753 adults/15 traps), May 455 (1649 adults/7 traps), Progen Carisma (845 adults/3 traps), May 468 ST (2424 adults/10 traps), Progen Edessa (1750 adults/10 traps), Progen Flash (1673 adults/7 traps), May 455 (2822 adults/8 traps). In 2020, 20,513 adult cotton bollworms were caught with 58 pheromone traps in seven cotton fields during the sampling period. In the study, the highest number of adult cotton bollworms was captured on July 26 (4,685 adults), followed by July 19 (2642 adults). The number of adult cotton bollworm captured by the traps depended on the cotton varieties: Progen Lima (3065 adults/10 traps), May 455 (3051 adults/8 traps), May 455 (1680 adults/5 traps), May 468 ST (3189 adults/10 traps), May 455 (3860 adults/12 traps), Progen Flash (2869 adults/7 traps), May 455 (3035 adults/8 traps). The study examined 500 cotton plants randomly selected from each cotton field on August 8, August 22, and September 6, 2019, where cotton bollworm infestation was determined in each cotton field. In the study, the highest percentage of damage was found in May 468 ST (1.40), followed by Progen Carisma (1.33), May 468 ST (1.13), Progen Edessa (0.93), May 455 (0.67), Progen Flash (0.47), and May 455 (0.27), respectively. The study examined 500 cotton plants randomly selected from each cotton field on July 26, August 9, August 23, September 6, September 20, and October 4, 2020, where cotton bollworm infestation was determined in each cotton field. In the study, the highest percentage of damage was found in May 455 (1.03), followed by Progen Lima (0.83), Progen Flash and May 455 (0.80), May 455 and May 468 ST (0.77), and May 455 ( 0.53), respectively.
