Abstract:

Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitate (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae) is one of the most important pests of citrus fruits in Turkey. The study was carried out in 2016-2017 to control and determine the damage ratio of Mediterranean fruit fly by attractants in citrus orchards in Dörtyol and Reyhanlı districts of Hatay province, Turkey. In 2016, the study was conducted in four citrus orchards. Two of them contained satsuma mandarin variety located at Bahçe70 in Dörtyol district and the other two contained w-murcott mandarin varitey located at Narpak farms in Reyhanlı district. In 2017, the study was conducted in two citrus orchards containing satsuma mandarin variety located at Bahçe70 in Dörtyol district. The SEDQ type traps with attractants ammonium acetate (AA), ammonium carbonate (AC), ammonium bicarbonate (AB), trimethylamine (TMA), putrecine (P), cadaverine (C) with different ratios, and their double and triple mixtures were used. In 2016, SEDQ type traps with AA, AC, AA+AC, AA+TMA+P and AA+TMA+C attractants were used in two trials in Dörtyol and two trials in Reyhanlı districts of Hatay province. Traps were arranged as randomized completed block design with 5 replications and hanged to be one trap for every other 3 trees. In 2017, SEDQ type traps with AA, AC, AB, AA+TMA+P and AA+TMA+C attractants were used in two trials in Dörtyol district of Hatay province. Traps were arranged as randomized completed block design with 5 replications and hanged to be one trap for every other 3 trees. Damage ratios were determined by evaluation of randomly chosen 300 fruits for each trial except the fruits of the trap hanged trees. In 2016 at Bahçe70, 1899 adults in the first and 936 adults in the second trial were caught by the traps. The highest numbers of adults were caught by AA + TMA + P mixture traps in the first and AA+TMA+C mixture traps in the second trial. In 2016 at Narpak farm, 1813 adults in the first and 1177 adults in the second trial were caught by the traps. The highest numbers of adults were caught by AA traps in the first and AA+AC mixture traps in the second trial. In 2017 at Bahçe70, 2338 adults in the first and 815 adults in the second trial were caught by the traps. The highest numbers of adults were caught by AA traps in the first and AA+TMA+P mixture traps in the second trial. The damage caused by the pest significantly differed according to the years. In 2016, the damage ratios on satsuma mandarin were determined to be 3.2 % in the first trial and 3.8% in the second trial. The damage ratios at w-murcott mandarin were determined to be 12.4 % in the first trial and 18.2% in the second trial. In 2017, the damage ratios on satsuma mandarin were determined to be 4.5 % in the first trial and 6% in the second trial.
