Abstract:

Capnodis cariosa (Pall.) (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) is the most important pest of pistachio trees. Purpose of this study was to determine the distribution, population density and damage rate of C. cariosa in pistachio orchards in Gaziantep province. The study was conducted in Karkamış and Nizip districts of Gaziantep province as weekly surveys. A total of 112 C. cariosa (♀, ♂) adults were collected in 2021 from all sampling areas. Among these, 63 were C. cariosa (♂) and 49 were C. cariosa (♀). The first adult emergence of C. cariosa was observed on 23 May. The highest number of adults of C. cariosa was caught on 5 September during the sampling period. The higher population density of C. cariosa was observed during the sampling period from late August to mid-September. It was observed that the number of male adults of the pest was higher than the number of female adults in 2021. A total of 116 C. cariosa (♀, ♂) adults were collected in 2022 from all sampling areas. Among these, 68 were C. cariosa (♂) and 48 were C. cariosa (♀). The first adult emergence of C. cariosa was observed on 1 May. The highest number of adults of C. cariosa was caught on 28 August during the sampling period. The higher population density of C. cariosa was observed during the sampling period from late August to mid-September. It was observed that the number of male adults of the pest was higher than the number of female adults in 2022. In 2021, the highest damage rate was observed in Orchard 12 with 15.8%, followed by Orchard 4 with 7.4%, Orchard 1 with 5.4%, Orchard 9 with 3.7%, Orchard 7 with 3.4%, Orchard 2 with 3.3%, Orchard 5 with 2.7%, Orchard 6 with 2.6%, Orchard 10, 11 with 2.2%, Orchard 3 with 1.6% and Orchard 8 with 0.9%. In 2022, the highest damage rate was observed in Orchard 12 with 14.7%, followed by Orchard 4 with 9.2%, Orchard 7 with 4.5%, Orchard 1 with 4.1%, Orchard 5 with 3.8%, Orchard 9 with 3.1%, Orchard 6, 11 with 2.7%, Orchard 2 with 1.7%, Orchard 3 with 1.6%, Orchard 10 with 1.3% and Orchard 8 with 0.9%.
