Abstract:

Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is one of the important pests of citrus in Turkey. Aim of this study is to evaluate the rate of control of Mediterranean fruit fly by mass trapping method and its damage rate in the satsuma mandarin garden in Hatay Province. The studies were conducted by using pheromone (last three months) and yellow traps in 2011-2012 at a satsuma mandarin garden (7 ha.) in Hatay Province. In 2011, 48 pheromone + yellow traps (a trap eight trees) were placed in the experimental cite from 1 August to December. In 2012, 23 pheromone + yellow traps (a trap four trees) were placed in the same cite from 14 August to December. The pheromone traps were weekly checked and adults of Mediterranean fruit fly were counted and after the counting the traps were cleaned. Pheromones were replaced with new ones in every 90 days. In 2011 a total of 8,968 Medfly adults were caught by pheromone traps. The highest amount of the Medfly adults captured by pheromone traps were in October (6396 units), followed in November (909 units), September (587 units) and August (105 units). In 2012 a total of 1,307 Medfly adults were caught by pheromone traps. The highest amount of the Medfly adults captured by pheromone traps were in September (420 units), followed in November (349 units), October (214 units) and August (48 units). The damage rates of Medfly were 10.91 and 8.56 % in 2011 and 2012, consequently.
