Abstract:The study was conducted in 2013-2014 to compare different attractants for management of Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Medfly) Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera:Tephritidae). The first year of the study was conducted in Katırbaşı pomegranate and Satsuma mandarin orchards, and the second year of the study was conducted in Hicaz and Katırbaşı pomegranate orchards. Ammonium acetate (AA), yeast (M) and ammonium carbonate (AC) were used as attractants in the first year of the study. In the second year, AA, AC, trimethylamine (TA), acetic acid (ACE), ammonium bicarbonate (AB), di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and cadaverine (C) were used as attractants. Transparent 500 ml polyethylene bottles with four holes were used as traps. Each of the traps consisted of 300 ml of one of the attractants, 2 ml of propylene glycol (10%) and 2 ml of DDVP (2%), were hanged 1-1.30 m above ground on the tree branches, placed as randomized complete blocks design with five replicates. In 2013, for Katırbaşı pomegranate variety, a total of 2789 Medfly adults (1619♀, 1170♂) and 3856 other Diptera species were caught. The highest catch of Medfly adults (♀♂) were by AA+AC with a raito of 69.29%, of which 34,95% was female and 34,34% was male. The highest catch of other Diptera species was with AA+M with the ratio of 37.39%. For Satsuma mandarin variety, a total of 176 Medfly adults (118 ♀, 58 ♂) and 495 other Diptera species were caught by different attractants traps. The highest catch of Medfly was by AA+AC attractants with a ratio of 66.5%. The ratios of different genders caught by AA+AC attractants were 24.13% ♀ and 42.37% ♂, AA 34.48% ♀, 26.27% ♂. The highest catch of other Diptera species was with AA+M with the ratio of 50.70 %. In 2014, a total of 7830 Medfly adults (5295♀, 2535♂) and 1433 other Diptera species were caught by different attractant traps in Hicaz pomegranate orchard. The highest catch of Medfly adults (♀♂) were by AB+AA with a ratio of 40.41%. For males the most attractive medium was AB+AA with a catch ratio of 21.45% and for females the most attractive medium was AA+AC with a catch ratio of 22.03%. The other Diptera species were most attracted to AB with a ratio of 28.47%. For Katırbaşı pomegranate variety, a total of 3400 Medfly adults (2306 ♀, 1094 ♂) and 593 other Diptera species were observed by different attractant traps. The highest catch of Medfly adults (♀♂) were observed by AB+AA with a ratio of 49.17%. For males the most attractive medium was AB+AA with a catch ratio of 26.41% and for females the most attractive medium was DAP with a catch ratio of 24.24%. The other Diptera species were most attracted to AB with a ratio of 34.06%. As a result, an attractants of AC , AA, AC , AD + AA and DAP is recommended with alternative control Medfly.
