Abstract:

Tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) is one of the most important pests of tomato plants. The study was carried out in eight tomato fields in Ezine district of Çanakkale province, Turkey in 2017-2018 in order to control T. absoluta by mass trapping and determine the damage rate. In the first year, the study was carried out in three fields of Zeplin and Chible tomato cultivars. In the second year, the study was carried out in fields of one Torreon, two Zeplin and one Kamenta tomato cultivars. Both of the years, Econex 0.5 mg (3E, 8Z, 11Z) -3,8,11-tetradecatrienyl acetate (TDTA) pheromone and different number of water + pheromone traps were used. In 2017, in the first trial, 40 pheromone traps were set up on Zeplin tomato fields, the highest number of adults was caught by them on 17th September and 1st October. In the second trial, 20 pheromone traps were set up on Zeplin tomato field, the highest number of adult moths caught by them on 27th, 13th, 20th August and 3rd September. In the third trial, 20 pheromone traps were set up on Zeplin tomato field, the highest numbers of adult moths caught by them on 1st October and 10th September. In the fourth trial, a 10 pheromone traps were set up on Chible tomato field, the highest number of adult moths were caught by them on 29th, 22nd October, 20th, 27th August and 3rd September. In 2018, in the first trial, 20 pheromone traps were set up in Torreon tomato field, the highest number of adults was caught by them on 23rd, 30th September. In the second trial, 20 pheromone traps were set up in Zeplin tomato field, the highest number of adult moths caught by them on 9th, 16th September. In the third trial, 12 pheromone traps were set up in Zeplin tomato field, the highest numbers of adults moths caught by them on 2nd, 9th September. In the fourth trial, 12 pheromone traps were set up in Kamenta tomato field, the highest numbers of adult moths were caught by them on 16th, 23rd September. In 2017, in the first trial, the leaf damage reached to 70% on 1st October. The fruit damage reached to 26% on 1st October. In the second trial, the leaf damage reached to 90% on 3rd September. The fruit damage reached to 41% on 3rd September. In the third trial, the leaf damage reached to 24% on 1st October. The fruit damage reached to 12% on 1st October. In the fourth trial, leaf damage reached to 17% on 29th October and fruit damage reached to 10% on 29th October. In 2018, in the first trial, the leaf damage reached to 70% on 30th September and the fruit damage reached to 26% on 30th September. In the second trial, the leaf damage reached to 45% on 16th September and the fruit damage reached to 35 % on 16th September. In the third trial, the leaf damage reached to 38% on 9th September and the fruit damage reached to 24% on 9th September. In the fourth trial, leaf damage reached to 26% on 23rd September and the fruit damage reached to 21% on 23rd September.
