Abstract:Mediterranean Fruit Fly (Medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wiedeman) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is one of the most important pest of citrus fruits, causing enormous economic losses annually in our country. The study was conducted in 2021-2022 to evaluate the effectiveness of the trimedlure and various attractants against the Medfly and to determine the damage rates in four different citrus orchards in Aksu and Serik districts of Antalya province. In the study, amonium acetate (AA), trimetylamin (TMA), cadaverine (C) and putrescine (P) were used to create seven different attractant combinations, with trimedlure (TM) used as the pheromone. These were tested using Econex yellow bucket traps with DDVP tablets as the killing agent. According to the study results, traps baited with Trimedlure captured more adult Medfly compared to other attractant combinations in both 2021 and 2022. In 2021, the highest number of adults per traps was captured in Fremont, followed by Klemantin, Washington Navel (Aksu) and Washington Navel (Serik). In 2022, Fremont again captured the highest number of adults, followed by Klemantin, Washington Navel (Serik), Washington Navel (Aksu). In both years, after the fruits reached maturity, damage rates were determined by examining 30 randomly selected fruits from the southern side of the trees every 15 days. In 2021, the highest average damage rate was observed in Washington Navel (Aksu) (%17.1), followed by Fremont (%10.2), Washington Navel (Serik) (%6.2) and Klemantin (%6.0). In 2022, the highest average damage rate was again observed in Washington Navel (Aksu) (%9.8), followed by Washington Navel (Serik) (%5.5), Fremont (%4.5) and Klemantin (%3.5). During the periods when the fruits reached maturity in both years, 30 randomly fruits from the southern side of the trees were examined at five different time intervals. In 2021, the highest average damage rate was found in Washington Navel (Aksu) (%14.8), followed by Klemantin (%7.7), Washington Navel (Serik) (%5.4) and Fremont (%3.8). In 2022 the highest average damage rate was observed in Washington Navel (Serik) (%5.6), followed by Washington Navel (Aksu) (%5.1), Klemantin (%4.6), Fremont (%4.4). During harvest time, the highest damage rates in 2021 were observed on Washington Navel (Aksu) (%71.6), followed by Fremont (%25), Klemantin (%19) and Washington Navel (Serik) (%14). In 2022, the highest damage rates were recorded for Fremont (%16.6) and Washington Navel (Serik) (%16.6), followed by Washington Navel (Aksu) (%13.3) and Klemantin (%11.6). The results indicate trapping alone is insufficient for fruit protection and that chemical control should be supported as part of an integrated pest management (IPM) strategy.
