Abstract:

Mediterranean fruit fly (Medfly), Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Tephritidae), is one of the important pests of citrus in Turkey. The purpose of this study is to control of Medfly by mass trapping in fremont mandarin and Washington orange and determinated its damage rate in Antalya province. The studies were conducted in 2016-2017 in two fremont mandarin (17, 50 decares) orchards and three Washington orange orchards (18,88, 154 decares) in Boztepe Agricultural Operations Area (TİGEM) in Aksu district of Antalya province. Each of the sampling year, totally 540 Econex trap + 95% Trimedlure (duration of effect 90 days) + DDVP impregnated tablet (duration of effect 90 days) were used in all sampled orchards. The Econex traps were weekly checked and male and females adult of Medfly were counted and after the counting the traps were cleaned. The trimedlure (%95) + DDVP impregnated tablet were replaced with new ones in every 90 days. In 2016, a total of 4,302 male + female of Medfly adults were caught by 154 traps seting up in 67 (17, 50) decares Fremont mandarin orchards. During the sampling period, the highest number of the Medfly adults captured by traps were in September (28.09%), followed in October (25.88%), August (23.76%) and November (22.27%). In 2016, a total of 20,752 male + female of Medfly adults were caught by 386 traps seting up in 260 (18, 88, 154) decares Washington orange orchards. During the sampling period, the highest amount of the Medfly adults captured by traps were in August (44.83%), followed in October (19.64%), September (19.17% ) and November (16.10%). In 2017, a total of 1,909 male +female of Medfly adults were caught by 154 traps seting up in 67 (17, 50) decares Fremont mandarin orchards. During the sampling period, the highest number of the Medfly adults captured by traps were in September (37.77%), followed in October (33.14%), November (22.57%) and August (6.52%). In 2017, a total of 4,760 male + female of Medfly adults were caught by 386 traps seting up in 260 (18, 88, 154) decares Washington orange orchards. During the sampling period, the highest amount of the Medfly adults captured by traps were in September (36.03%), followed in October (34.10%), November (22.73%) and August (7.14%). The damage rates of Medfly on Fremont mandarin (67-decares) were 4 and 12% in 2016 and 2017, consequently. The damage rates of Medfly on Washington orange (260- decares) were 6.55 and 7.60% in 2016 and 2017, consequently.
